Be cunning, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
