Be brilliant, play clever, and become versed in craps the right way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
