Become Versed in Craps – Tips and Plans: The Background of Craps
May 20th, 2023 by Kenneth

Be brilliant, play brilliant, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
