November 3rd, 2021 by Kenneth

Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French moved down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he established the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
