Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A few think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
